It Was the Year of Goldilocks Bags—Too Big, Too Small
While the trend for oversized jeans and sleek sneakers is clear, there’s no single bag that defined 2024. While accessories like the Alaïa Le Teckel, Coach Brooklyn, and Bottega Veneta Andiamo gained considerable attention—and drained some bank accounts—there’s still no universal agreement on the “it” bag of the year. Celebrity fashion seems divided, with some stars favoring petite styles and others opting for larger, more practical bags. It’s like we’re caught in a true Goldilocks dilemma.
The craze for ultra-small bags hit its peak with the Simon Porte Jacquemus Le Chiquito, a laughably tiny purse that prioritized style over function. Despite being able to fit little more than a few Tic Tacs, the micro bag trend remains strong. In fact, this year, celebrities embraced these miniature accessories but with a twist—offering models with more practicality.
Gigi Hadid and Sofie Richie Grainge both sported the Loro Piana Extra Pocket Mini Pouch, which measures just 9x15x3 centimeters—roughly the size of an iPhone 16. Richie Grainge took it a step further, adorning her bag with a pink Loewe elephant charm, giving it a personalized flair. Elle Fanning favored a similar design with Bottega Veneta’s black intrecciato Bang Bang bag. On the other hand, Rihanna and Jennifer Lopez each carried their own diminutive bags, with Rihanna choosing a denim Louis Vuitton Speedy and J.Lo opting for a Fendi Peekaboo.
Meanwhile, other celebrities demonstrated their skill at carrying more substantial bags, with Katie Holmes standing out as a true master of the craft. The actress, who is currently performing in Our Town on Broadway, was frequently spotted with larger, more functional accessories.
